Overview

Every meal tells a story. I once heard someone say, "The aroma of food smells like love." I would add, "The aroma of food evokes a memory." I can remember from my earliest childhood that every meal my mother prepared was made with love, regardless of how sparse or full the plate. I will always be reminded of my mom and her food because of this. Her dinner table was a celebration of love and life. And, with every dish I make I can still hear mom ask, "Did you put any okra in it?"

So, join me on this food journey as I share many of my favorite home-cooked meals that I enjoy making for my family and friends, and reminisce about the joys of growing up in my mother's kithen where so many happy memories were made. It is a love letter to my mother.

About the Author

Gail Price Fitch was born in Queens and raised in The Bronx in New York City, in a family of four boys, one girl, Bruno the dog, and a loving mother. On the block where she grew up in the South Bronx, Gail was surrounded by the sights, sounds and aromas of foods from so many different cultures being cooked and shared throughout the neighborhood. It was this experience, along with watching and helping with the delicious meals her mother prepared daily, that informed Gail’s love of food, no matter how eclectic.

Gail graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY and built her career in the Wealth Management sector. Nevertheless, Gail’s love for writing, cooking and sharing meals and laughter with family and friends never faltered. Her passion for food and making memories grew as she traveled around the world. Now that Gail is
retired, she finally has the time to write about the foods and experiences that bring her joy.
